Public Policy Projects (PPP) is pleased to invite you to our April health and care thought leadership breakfast with Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London and Labour Peer, Lord Robert Winston\u00a0\u201cThe future of fertility policy in the context of the genomics revolution<\/i>\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since Lord Winston pioneering in vitro fertilisation techniques in the 1970s, fertility policy has enabled millions of children to be born worldwide.\u00a0 Given the rapid transformation in global genomic discovery, there has never been a more critical time to discuss the science and ethics of fertility policy in the context of the genomics revolution.\u00a0 Our speaker in April is one of the most respected authorities in the fertility policy space.\u00a0 Join Public Policy Projects for one of the most interesting discussions in our 2019 series.\u00a0 A state of the UK fertility sector talk will open the Public Policy Projects discussion.<\/p>\n

Professor Lord Robert Winston<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord Winston is Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London.\u00a0\u00a0In the 1970s he developed gynaecological surgical techniques that\u00a0improved fertility treatments. He later pioneered new treatments to improve\u00a0in vitro fertilisation (IVF)\u00a0and developed pre-implantation diagnosis. This allowed embryos to be screened\u00a0for genetic diseases and has allowed parents carrying faulty genes to have children free of illnesses such as cystic fibrosis. He now runs a research programme at the\u00a0Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology at Imperial College\u00a0that aims to improve human transplantation. Robert Winston has\u00a0over 300 scientific publications about human reproduction and the early stages of pregnancy.\u00a0 Robert Winston is also Chairman of the\u00a0Genesis Research Trust<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0a charity which raised over \u00a313 million to establish the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology and which now funds high quality research into women\u2019s health and babies.\u00a0 Lord Winston is also a Labour peer.<\/p>\n
